Mother’s Day

We spent several hours exploring Golden Gate Canyon State Park

There was an old homestead

and a giant piece of rose quartz

Day 100

April 10, 2011

Strawberry Plants

Day 99

April 9, 2011

I went over to the nursery again…I think we have everything to start our garden now!!!

Day 89

March 30, 2011

It has been a LONG day.  Earlier in the day I took some sprout pictures.

tomato plant
My lone parsley (I’m not sure if the others made it Blake kind of messed the dirt up while I wasn’t looking)Marjoram getting tallerThe broccoli already sproutedThen the evening got interesting (read:horrible) Forgive the poor quality of the pictures grabbing my external flash wasn’t a priority. I’ll start by saying that outside of a gash Blake is 100% fine. No concussion or anything is suspected.  You know the kids song 5 Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed… replace bed with couch and he bumped his head on the edge of our brick fireplace.  Most of the fireplace is covered by safety pads.  He hit the one area that is not covered. A little over 3 hours in the Children’s ER and FIVE staples to my little boys noggin and we’re home safe.  The sweater sadly did not make it.  I wasn’t about to pull that tight collar over his head.  Oh well it was a cheap sale sweater.  He did every well and barely even cried while they were cleaning and stapling him up.  I am exhausted.  Oh and the fact that he is picking his nose is awesome blackmail gold 🙂

I’m happy we made it 2.5+ years without an ER visit for an injury (he was taken once after a car accident but checked out perfectly fine)

Day 80

March 21, 2011

Today was a beautiful day in the mid 70’s.  First we went to Blake’s first gymnastics class and had fun (I didn’t realize how much of a work out I would be in for, I’m worn out)  Then we met up with some friends at a park we had never gone to and had fun.  We walked over to a nearby store and had lunch but stayed for over four hours!! Blake is currently taking his first actual nap in weeks!!

These are pictures of what looked like a piece of rusty farm equipment that was off to the side of the park.

Day 79

March 20, 2011

Today before picking up Blake from his grandparents’ house I wandered over to the nursery for some seeds.  I found a very active bee and some beautiful flowers!

Day 73

March 14, 2011

We spent more time in the back yard today.  Aaron has been doing a good job cleaning it up so that it’s safe for Blake to play in this summer.  Plus we have a ton of garden prep to do.

Here are some of the seeds we plan on using.

I thought this one was funny.  I don’t know about you but I expect oregano to ummm taste like oregano not something else. The flowers line up.  Aaron want’s blues.Just because my kid is cute and really one of my major purposes in actually learning photography is to take better pictures of him.For the 18 months I thought he was going to get his daddy’s blues but in the last year it has become apparent that he has received my browns.  Although like mine there’s a hint of hazel.

Day 66

March 7, 2011

Oil and water.  I’ve seen this idea floating around the internet and decided to try it.  I held up a glass Pyrex dish with two boxes from the pantry and put a few of Blake’s paintings underneath. It was harder than I expected.  It was having difficulty focusing but I got a few decent shots and then tried manual focus with so-so results.  Still it was a fun experiment.

In the next two pictures I added a little food coloring to the water/olive oil and placed it over a different painting.

Day 48

February 17, 2011

More loosely defined macros.  These are the fully open lilies that were in my Valentine’s Day flowers.  They are beautiful.  It’s unfortunate that I am allergic.  I knew I was allergic to Tiger Lilies but now I’m wondering if I’m allergic to all Lilies.  I cut off the worst offenders after I caught Blake sniffling too.  The sure are pretty though and I’m loving the detail I’m getting with my new lens!

Day 46

February 15, 2011

Why oh why do things happen that I want to photography seem to always occur in horrible light? Today was a beautiful day but the afternoon light was very harsh!

Blake is starting to recognize letters and numbers and touches them when he sees them.

I also attempted week 7 of the Two Peas Tutorial.  The assignment is about macro photography.   I do not have a true macro lens so I used the 75mm end of my new 28-75mm. The next two pictures fit the loose definition of a small item larger than life-size.

Next I realized that my child is like me.  I always stick my tongue out when I’m concentrating!

Geese.  I strongly dislike geese but they are pretty.
