Day 48

February 17, 2011

More loosely defined macros.  These are the fully open lilies that were in my Valentine’s Day flowers.  They are beautiful.  It’s unfortunate that I am allergic.  I knew I was allergic to Tiger Lilies but now I’m wondering if I’m allergic to all Lilies.  I cut off the worst offenders after I caught Blake sniffling too.  The sure are pretty though and I’m loving the detail I’m getting with my new lens!

Day 45

February 14, 2011

Happy Valentine’s Day

Here are pictures of the beautiful flowers my husband gave me ❤

I’ve been playing with my new lens.  I’m not sure the focus is perfect.  In the picture of the white lily I know I toggled the focus to be right on the tip of the stamina but clearly the focus falls behind it. It definitely could be user error so I need to play with it more.  It is very nice being able to go down to a focal length of 28 in my house.

Day 43

February 12, 2011

Another long one.  I took a bunch of pictures of the Valentines box Blake made to send to his Grandma and cousins since it’s unlikely we’ll be there to participate in the contest they’re having.  Plus I’m trying to get used to my new lens.

I had Blake paint the entire box with whatever colors he wanted.  Then over a few days we started gluing stuff on.

The top:   We glued (I positioned Blake did used a glue stick) the hearts I cut out from sparkly foam.  Blake also glued on a pom-pom

Right Side:  Blake Glued on a heart with my help

Front:  I used a shape puncher to cut out some shapes from some old pink wrapping paper.  Blake chose where they went and manned the glue stick while I put the shapes he wanted where he wanted them to go.

Left side: another foam heart

Bottom: Just painted

Back: Foam hears pom-poms (one of which Blake decided several days later he didn’t want on there and tore it off) and shaped sequins.  For the sequins I manned the glue while Blake placed them

and just for fun our Valentine’s window clings

Day 40

February 9, 2011

Tomorrow is the Valentines Day celebration at story time.  I made the sweets below as my contribution.  Unfortunately, I have decided Blake is too sick to attend.  He hasn’t quite mastered the art of keeping the germs to himself and there are to many tiny babies that tag along with their older siblings to risk it.  Bummer.  I think I’m going to have Aaron bring these treats into work so I don’t gain five pounds.

I had to break out the flash for these finished pictures since I was losing light by the time they were done.  So far I’m really happy with my new flash.

Day 39

February 8, 2011

So my I have a little bit of a cold or maybe allergies has morphed into I’m definitely sick.  I had to make myself get up and take a few pictures while the Babe naps so I wouldn’t miss a day.  I metered off the heart.  I think it’s interesting how different the wood looks.  I think I’m going to go relax before Blake wakes up.

Day 30

January 30, 2011

Yesterday my new external flash arrived in the mail.  It’s a Canon Speedlite 430EX II.  I’m very excited.  I think I will always prefer natural light but it will be nice to capture the indoor and low light moments without the harsh glare of the pop up.  I read the manual yesterday and I have a feeling it’s going to have a steep learning curve but it should be fun!

Here’s a picture of one of the crafts Blake and I are doing for Valentines day.  It was taken with my new flash bouncing off the window behind me.

Then I went back to natural light and took several pictures of our Galileo Thermometer.

These pictures still seem a little gray even though I did set a custom white balance for the last two pictures.  I think I need to get a gray card and start setting the WB in post processing.

Day 25

January 25, 2011

Today I bought a throw blanket at Target to use as a background.  Plus, my kid is cute!

‘m getting better at taking and editing pictures.  I know they’re not perfect, the focus isn’t always in the right place and in a perfect world where my thrifty fifty wasn’t so tight in the only room that gets decent light I would have placed him farther from the background, but I’m really enjoying documenting the cuteness of my little boy 🙂

Day 19

January 19, 2011

Today was fun.  The toddler kind of cooperated and I got some cute picture. I should title this post the many faces of Blake.

I have a feeling this isn’t the last I will be seeing of this particular expression.  He doesn’t even know what it means (yet) but he’s master the eye roll with disturbing accuracy.

When Blake got tired of the camera I moved on to the envelopes we’ve mad to stuff with Valentines.

All of these were shot in manual (Yay!)
